When we first moved in we had very little grass.  The main reason for this is that the previous occupants didn’t rake or dispose of their leaves.  Neither did they mow the law or do any other regular maintenance, so everything was overgrown, mossy, and overall it was just a mess.

So our first summer was spent clearing things out.  I bought a push mower optimistic that I’d be able to do all the maintenance I needed with it.  I was wrong–the ground was too uneven and the push mower was practically useless.  We did get rid of the leaves and planted some grass seed.   Here’s a quick shot of how quickly/easily grass comes in (the holes are from where we uprooted a crab apple tree).
